Modern organizations face unprecedented challenges in managing their increasingly complex technology landscape. This includes not only traditional IT networks but also critical infrastructure, industrial control systems (ICS), and Operational Technology (OT) environments. You need complete visibility across all these areas to ensure uptime, optimize performance, and mitigate security risks. The Paessler team understands these interconnected challenges, and our 2025 roadmap for Paessler PRTG is designed to provide a unified monitoring solution that empowers your teams to be proactive, efficient, and secure.

prtg 2025 roadmap unified monitoring for your entire it and ot infrastructure

Here's a detailed look at how we're expanding the capabilities of PRTG.

Challenge 1: Scaling monitoring to meet the demands of diverse and growing environments

Whether it's a rapidly expanding IT network, a sprawling datacenter or industrial facility, or likely a complex mix of both, your monitoring solution needs to scale effortlessly. Legacy tools often struggle to handle the sheer volume and variety of data generated by modern IT, infrastructure, and OT systems. This leads to performance bottlenecks, blind spots, and increased risk of outages and disruptions.

Our solution: A re-architecture with modern underpinnings for scalability and flexibility

  • Next-generation database: We're upgrading the core database of PRTG with a new, high-performance time-series database built on PostgreSQL. This industry-standard technology is specifically designed to handle massive volumes of time-series data (like sensor readings from IT, infrastructure, and OT devices), providing significantly improved performance and scalability. This means faster query times, quicker report generation, and the ability to monitor a vastly larger number of assets without performance degradation.
  • Modern, high-performance messaging: We are implementing NATS. This high-performance messaging system, built on cloud-native technologies, optimizes communication between PRTG components. This reduces latency and improves the overall responsiveness of the system, even under heavy load from diverse data sources.
  • Enhanced multi-platform probe: The multi-platform probe our versatile remote probe, is getting consistent upgrades. It will now run seamlessly on a wider range of operating systems, from resource-constrained embedded Linux systems (common in OT environments) to the latest versions of Windows. This gives you greater flexibility in deploying probes across your diverse IT, infrastructure, and OT landscape.
  • Optimized resource utilization: We're optimizing every aspect of PRTG to minimize resource consumption. This means you can monitor more with less, reducing your hardware footprint and operational costs, regardless of whether you're monitoring servers, network switches, PLCs, or other critical equipment.

Challenge 2: Strengthening security and ensuring compliance across all environments

Cybersecurity threats are a major concern for both IT and OT environments. Industrial control systems, in particular, are increasingly targeted by attackers, and a successful breach can have devastating consequences. Organizations also face increasing pressure to comply with various industry regulations and standards. You need monitoring tools that provide comprehensive security visibility across your entire technology landscape and help you meet your compliance obligations.

Our solution: Enhanced security features and streamlined compliance reporting

  • Audit and compliance tracking: PRTG will now offer more granular tracking of changes made within the system itself. This provides a clear audit trail of who did what and when, helping you investigate potential security incidents (whether IT-related or OT-related) and demonstrate compliance with regulations.
  • Seamless SIEM integration: We're making it easier than ever to integrate PRTG with your existing Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system. Exporting security-relevant data from all monitored environments (IT, infrastructure, and OT) to your SIEM allows you to consolidate security information and gain a holistic view of your security posture. This reduces the time it takes to identify and react to potential threats.
  • Full support for Windows Server 2025: PRTG will be fully compatible with the latest security enhancements in Windows Server 2025, including support for Kerberos authentication. This ensures your core Windows monitoring infrastructure is secure.
  • Secure by design: Security is not an afterthought; it's built into the core of PRTG. We follow secure coding practices and regularly conduct security audits.

Challenge 3: Simplifying monitoring and reducing complexity in heterogeneous environments

Managing IT, infrastructure, and OT systems often involves using multiple, disparate monitoring tools. This leads to a fragmented view of your technology landscape, increased complexity, and a higher risk of missed alerts and delayed responses. Integration between different tools and technologies requires a strategy for data pipelines.

Our solution: A focus on user experience and streamlined workflows across all domains

  • Rolling out added capabilities in our Web UI: We’re adding more capabilities and better usability of the UI as we take additional user feedback to optimize the user experience. The new UI is modern, intuitive, and responsive, making it easier to navigate, customize, and manage your entire monitoring environment (IT, infrastructure, and OT) from a single pane of glass. We are still keeping parts of the interface which are popular and allow you to get your work done faster and more efficiently.
  • Streamlined onboarding workflow: PRTG now features a streamlined onboarding workflow. Our improved setup process, including a guided wizard, simplifies device discovery and configuration, saving you time and effort.

PRTG Data Hub is continuing to evolve into the core of your observability data pipeline strategy.

  • Available on both Windows and Linux: We're building a high-performance, reliable foundation for collecting and routing Logs and SNMP traps from diverse sources to any destination.
  • Native Windows event log integration: High-throughput pipeline for ingesting Windows Event Logs, providing complete and efficient access to this crucial data stream. The Data Hub runs natively on Windows, ensuring optimal performance and compatibility.
  • Flexible data routing: Configure PRTG Data Hub to forward data to PRTG, SIEM systems, data lakes, or any other endpoint. This "collect once, use many" architecture maximizes data utilization.
  • Expanding horizons: The longer-term roadmap for PRTG Data Hub includes support for a broader range of observability signals. Beyond logs, expect future integrations with metrics and other key data types, creating a unified data collection platform.

Challenge 4: Automating and integrating for maximum efficiency across IT, infrastructure, and OT

IT, Infrastructure and OT teams are increasingly relying on automation to streamline workflows and improve efficiency. They need monitoring tools that can integrate seamlessly with their existing IT ecosystem and support automated processes.

Our solution: A comprehensive and consistent API

  • Full API parity across deployment models: We are deploying the full PRTG API on both our hosted (cloud) and on-premises (self-hosted) versions.
  • Expanded API capabilities: The 2025 roadmap includes significant enhancements to the API allowing for adding and managing sensors, groups, probes & channels.

Beyond the core challenges: Expanding capabilities and integrations

  • Network topology discovery: Gain a visual understanding of your network's structure with automatic discovery of layer-2 and layer-3 topology information.
  • Improved PRTG MultiBoard features: We're streamlining the PRTG MultiBoard experience, adding support for authentication with Single Sign-On (SSO) providers , and integration with Citrix environments.
  • Unique Grafana approach: While Grafana itself is a well-established tool, we're developing a unique approach to integrating PRTG data with Grafana that will provide unparalleled insights into your IT, infrastructure, and OT environments. Stay tuned for more details on this exciting development in the coming months!
  • Expanded sensor library: We're constantly adding new sensors to PRTG to support a wider range of devices, applications, and services across IT, infrastructure, and OT.

The Future of Unified Monitoring is Here

The PRTG 2025 roadmap represents a major step forward in providing a unified monitoring solution for the modern, interconnected world. We're delivering a platform that is more scalable, secure, user-friendly, and integrated than ever before.
