To reliably monitor an HPE 3PAR StoreServ server, Paessler PRTG offers three native sensors, which I introduced some time ago in this article:

πŸ‘‰ Let's talk about sensors! HPE 3PAR Storage Server monitoring.

Since that article was published, all of the sensors have moved out of beta status and are now fully supported. With this article I will show you how you can easily add and use the three sensors:

  • HPE 3PAR Common Provisioning Group sensor
This sensor monitors the capacity of a Common Provisioning Group (CPG) - which means a virtual pool of logical disks that allows up to 64 volumes - on an HPE 3PAR storage system.
  • HPE 3PAR Drive Enclosure sensor
The HPE 3PAR Drive Enclosure sensor monitors a drive enclosure of a HPE 3PAR storage system.
  • HPE 3PAR Virtual Volume sensor
You can use the HPE 3PAR Virtual Volume sensor to monitor the capacity of a virtual volume on an HPE 3PAR storage system.

How to add HPE 3PAR sensors in PRTG

In this example we use the Virtual Volume sensor. You can add both other sensors according to these same steps.

i Please note
Each HPE 3PAR sensor requires credentials for HPE 3PAR in settings that are higher in the object hierarchy, for example, in the settings of the parent device.

If you can't find the Web Services API (WSAPI) port for the connection, have a look at our knowledge base article.

  • Navigate to your HPE 3PAR Storage Server
  • Click the "Add Sensor" button and search for HPE 3PAR sensors
  • Choose the HPE 3PAR Virtual Volume sensor
  • Select one or more Virtual Volumes and click "Create"

Add HPE 3PAR Virtual Volume Sensor to PRTG
If everything is configured correctly, the sensor appears after a few seconds and provides the following information depending on the device(s):

Through the channels of the sensor you get information about:

  • Snapshots
  • Space (Total & User)
  • Downtime
  • Status

Have a look here for more details about the channel list of this sensor:

Common Provisioning Group sensor & Drive Enclosure sensor

As described above, you can also add both other sensors in the same way as in this example. The only difference is that for the HPE 3PAR Common Provisioning Group sensor, you select one or more CPGs and for the HPE 3PAR Drive Enclosure sensor, you select one or more drive enclosures.

On our roadmap, we also collect feedback via surveys to help us develop some new features, and we would love to get your opinions. Of course we are also happy about any feedback on other HPE equipment you leave us under this article!
