Massively Improved NetApp Monitoring with New PRTG Release 17.3.33

Written by Thomas Timmermann | Aug 25, 2017

Having just recently become a NetApp Alliance Partner, we decided to create  a bunch of new, powerful sensors to gain much deeper insights into your NetApp storage than was previously possible using the former PRTG NetApp sensors based on SNMP. At this point, we want to say a big ‘Thank You’ to our Swiss partner Diwega, who supported us with their excellent NetApp know-how and a NetApp testing environment.

More Details, Faster, and Brand New

The new sensors don’t use SNMP like the old ones did, but directly request data in XML format from the NetApp API. This allows us to request many more details than when using SNMP, and it might also speed up the sensors a little bit in certain scenarios. The new sensors already support the brand new ONTAP version 9.2 (released end of June).

The NetApp Aggregate Sensor monitors the status of a NetApp cDOT or ONTAP storage aggregate.

What Do You Get?

Each of these sensors offers a bunch of channels that inform you about performance, remaining space, or status of your NetApp entities. You can set thresholds and define notifications for each of these sensors individually.

Requirements, Assistance

The new NetApp sensors have been released with PRTG version 17.3.33. They require Microsoft .NET Framework version 4.5 or later. If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to contact our support team.
